Player Bio

Thomas Benjamin Abell has been one of the finest players to have come out of the Somerset academy. A right-handed batsman with impeccable technique, Abell has a bright future ahead of him.

He had a prolific cricket record at Taunton school, where in 2012 he accumulated seven centuries at an average of 193 and was named the 2013 Young Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year.

He made his Somerset first class debut against Warwickshire in 2014 and scored an impressive 95 in his very first innings. Three years later he became the youngest County captain when Abell was given the reins of Somerset for the 2017 County Championship.

Captaincy took a toll on his batting as the elegant batter was even dropped midway from the squad due to poor form. He finished the tournament with an average of 26.

In the following domestic campaign he improved his average close to 40 and was also handy with his right-arm medium pace, scalping wickets at crucial junctures.

Ahead of the 2021 season of Hundreds, Abell was roped in by Birmingham Phoenix, and the franchise would be hoping that the talented Somerset man brings his A game in the tournament.
